Potential buyers, please take note.

Last week, I had a retired couple come inspect and take home the PW RV for the night. Both are engineers and currently own a Pleasure Way without a toilet or shower. That was their primary interest in the Plateau XL. They went over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb. I asked them to write a critique of what they found. It is as follows:

“Van rides beautifully. Overall condition is not bad. Skylight while not leaking could be $1,000 to replace. It will leak eventually. Awning fix could be a few hundred dollars (although it does work manually). Bathroom skylight aged, is sun damaged and will leak eventually. Water heater has been replaced. Windshield washer clips are a pain to replace. Table top is not original. There is a dent in hood (from a tree limb). Need to replace dashboard and sound system to be current. Overall, repairs/upgrades would be $5,000 to $6,000. It's a nice vehicle for someone”. It also has a brand new air conditioning unit but as the potential buyers pointed out, it still functions the same as before replacement.

I am considering consignment of my RV but the cost to the purchaser will go up at least 10% over the current asking price of $75,000 if I sign a contract. One entity wants to list the PW Plateau XL at $83,400. Another dropped the proposed list price by $6,625 over a 3 week time period. I would like to sell the vehicle by the end of April so time is of the essence. As of now, mileage on the RV is 63,000.

There is no question that the Mercedes engine will last a long, long time. The RV is now 11 years old and showing signs of wear. However, all the appliances and perks found in and on the vehicle are still in very good working order.

The Pleasure Way Plateau XL is a wonderful vehicle. Personally, I have found it is too small to live in and because of the extra width and height, too challenging for me to drive. The Murphy Bed is a big plus in terms of comfort and the maple cabinetry is exceptional. Had the bed been rotated 90 degrees, I believe the engineer couple would have made the purchase.

If you like Pleasure Way vehicles, please make an inquiry. The 2015 RV has been well maintained over the past decade. The 2015 Silver Pleasure Way Plateau XL Class B motor home is just under 23' long and 18" wider than a standard sprinter van. This XL has been been driven 63,000 miles, has a 6 cylinder Mercedes diesel engine and has been well-maintained . Previous owners are from Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. Service records are available from 37,500 miles. The last oil change was at 57,000 miles, tires have 27,000 miles of wear, transmission and fuel filters were replaced at 44,000 miles.Key features include a Murphy Bed, custom interior maple cabinetry, interior and exterior showers, 4 sources of power/electricity, numerous appliances and a brand new air conditioning unit. This model was the last year PW used lead batteries for energy storage. The company switched to lithium-ion batteries in 2016. Driver and passenger seat covers are also new. This model does not include an exterior TV. The vehicle is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Accommodations can be made to picked up at the airport (CLT) or the current owner is willing to deliver the vehicle to you anywhere in the US. The previous owner is also available for consultation as he is much more knowledgeable about the Pleasure Way XL than the current owner. It appears there are very few Plateau XL's for sale in the US or Canada. If you are shopping, make sure you comparing XL to XL and not Standard or model numbers. Rather than consign this vehicle, this PW Plateau XL is being offered at $75,000, down from an asking price of $84,500 last Fall.

Prior to purchase, personal research indicated Pleasure-Way vehicles were superior to other RV options. Previous owners kept good maintenance records which are available. This Class B vehicle was listed for $84,500 this past fall. Since then, it has been driven 2,000 miles and a new AC unit has been installed. It also has relatively new driver and passenger seat covers. The 6 cylinder diesel engine continues to hum.

This model does not have the exterior tv and the tabletop is made of wood, not Corian.
