RV Description

1985 Romini Caravan, the only one in the USA of the 200 built. Made by Island Plastics Ltd. in
the Isle of Wight off the southern coast of England.
This lightweight British Caravan (Travel Trailer) was designed to be towed by the classic Mini
and similar sized vehicles of the era. It only weighs 735lbs which means it can be towed by most
small vehicles and easily moved by hand. Body length is 7ft 1in and an overall length of 9ft 10in.
Lots of features you dont even get on full size travel trailers were put into this classic. This
caravan is a fully insulated fiberglass body and features large double glazed windows. It has
surge brakes, rubber torsion bar suspension, a hand parking brake close to the coupler and a
dutch style door.
Inside, it has a molded sink unit with cover; behind this is a small wardrobe and storage cabinet
below. Opposite the sink is a butane stove and a cabinet with storage above and below. Two
small butane bottles were stored in the exterior compartment up front. The butane bottles were
left in the UK, as I intended to replace them with two 5lb/7lb propane tanks and convert the stove to
suit. The traditional upholstery is original to the caravan. It has two bench seats with storage
below and a folding removable table. The cushions rearrange to form a bed that is 6ft 1in across
and 4ft wide. There is 6ft of headroom when standing. Above the two side windows is shelving
and additional storage above the front window. The roof vent is a standard US size roof vent; this
could accommodate a modern RV vent fan.
The towing coupler is a metric size and must be towed with a metric ball; a new metric ball will
be included in the sale (will not fit an imperial size ball). The coupler/surge brake and axle are
AL-KO brand. The wheels are 12 inches in diameter; tires and inner tubes are unused but they
are older. The heavy duty jockey wheel is intended to be removed and stored while traveling.
The caravan needs a power source to use the interior lights. The electrical towing connection is a
European system but included is an adapter for the US flat 4 pin connector. New set of Romini
decals for future use included.
I purchased this 20 years ago in England and imported it to the US to add to my British car
collection. Oregon DMV reviewed the trailer and its build specification and issued registration and up to now it hasnt been
used. It was only registered last year. Some small imperfections from its previous life in the
UK.
Now is your chance to own a rare and unique caravan that would complement a modern car or a
classic of the era.
